Guidelines for Special Issue Editors
Guidelines for Special Issues of the Journal of Web Semantics
The journal of Web Semantics publishes special issues or special sections, respectively, that are either based on best papers from selected conferences or are covering a special, future-oriented topic related to the scope of the journal. Due to page limitations, the journal typically publishes only a very limited number of special issues or special sections per year. Consequently not all worthy and timely proposals for special issues can be accommodated.
Persons interested in editing a special issue for a specific topic are required to send in a proposal stating:
- the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the proposer(s)
- the topic of the planned special issue and why it is important,
- a descriptions of plans to distribute and publisize the call for papers, if appropriate,
- names of any authors who will be specially invited to submit papers
to the special issue,
- the schedule for publishing it.
Proposals have to be sent to the journal's editorial office at:
jws-editorialoffice@lists.man.ac.uk
The Editors-in-chief will evaluate the proposal and decide about its acceptance.
In case the proposal is accepted the procedure is as follows:
- Editors of the special issue have to agree with the editors-in-chief about the final schedule for publishing the special issue and about the number of pages that are reserved for the special issue. The editors are expected to adhere carefully to the maximum number of pages for the special issue. This page limit does include the introduction to the special issue.
- They have to publish a call-for-papers for the special issue or, in case of a best paper issue, have to contact the respective authors they want to have submit a paper. A copy of the call for papers should be sent to the journal's editorial office. The journal's editorial office will in addition publish the call-for-papers, if appropriate.
- The special issue editors have the responsibility to organize the review process for the special issue, i.e. select reviewers and assign papers to reviewers. Special issue editors will be provided with access to the Elsevier editorial system (http://ees.elsevier.com/jws/) to handle the review process.
They keep the editorial office informed about the status of the review process.
- They propose to the editors-in-chief which papers should be accepted or rejected based on the review process. The editors-in-chief reserve the right to request changes and/or additional reviews for any of the papers to ensure the quality and style of the journal.
- The special issue editors inform the journal's editorial office about the selected papers and organize with the authors of accepted papers that final versions of accepted papers are uploaded to the Elsevier editorial system.
- The special issue editors write an introduction for the special issue.
